Key Outcomes:
- The Bollettino della Comunita’ Scientifica in Australasia was published three times per year, distributed to more than 5000 electronic addresses and it was available on the website for download – It features articles, regular columns and S&T news of interest for both Italian and Australian researchers. From March 2001 to December 2008, 28 editions have been published in two languages with more than 350 articles and 1000 S&T news;
- The website had more than 150 visitors per day from all over the world;
- The Association for Research between Italy and Australasia – “ARIA”, were incorporated in six Australian States and in Italy, gathering more than 400 researchers in the two countries, which are linked through a common network;
- From 2001 to December 2009 more than 3000 Italian and Australian researchers, academics and entrepreneurs (600 from Italy) participated to more than 70 conferences all around Australia;
- more than 100 researchers were exchanged between universities and research centers from the two countries during 8 years;
- Agreements were set up between Veneto-Victoria, Queensland-Piedmont, South Australia-Apulia etc.);

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS
- Developed international cooperation in partnership with other government agencies, universities, industry and research institutions to improve South Australian competitiveness and product, maximizing the benefits from its international science and research relationships:
- Between 2009 and 2012 he initiated and managed the development of many agreements that were signed between South Australia Government and Sub-National European Governments where joint technological projects were funded on a dollar for dollar basis and this has enabled each university, research centre and public/private organisation to double the resources.. Up to today 23 scientific/technological projects (in the fields of agro-food, remote-sensing, water, transport, nanomaterials, photonic, bionsensors, etc.) have been arranged, and 20 international conferences have been arranged in Europe and in South Australia. An exchange of approximately 30 researchers have been involved with exchanges between Europe and South Australia. Including a couple of Cotutelle programs (joint PhD agreements) between the Universities of Adelaide and Pisa and Bari.
- Between 2009 and 2012, he developed three agreements that were signed between the Department of the Premier and Cabinet and Universities of Trento, Bocconi (Milan) and Polytechnic of Turin. Up to now, we have hosted 19 interns from these three universities (3 month internships). These Universities have signed Internship Covenants with the South Australian Government committing them to providing students to participate in research projects in DPC. All students produce a research report promoting South Australia in Europe; as a hub for economic opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region, and various other topics of strategic interest to the State).
- Since 2003 Adjunct Professor in Science and Technology at University of Canberra Australia. As an Adjunct Professor at the University of Canberra I am in strategy meetings with senior academics to develop innovation in the fields of biomedical, environmental and industrial design and international activities. I was involved in the organisation of conferences to develop relationships with European universities and research centres.
- In 2008 publication of the book ‘What if they never existed?’ to raise awareness about the importance of research and development in our everyday life and to raise funds to be used to promote Italian-Australian scientific collaboration. The proceeds of the book are committed to funding scholarships for early career researchers in an exchange program between Australia and Italy. The profits have already risen to more than AUD$ 70,000 (Euro 50,000).
- In 2007 appointed Honorary Member of the Order of Australia by the Government of Australia for “Service to Australia-Italy bilateral relations by developing and promoting research and scientific linkages”.
- In 2002 planning, organisation and management of the first Italian-Australian Technological Innovations Conference & Exhibition "IATICE 2002" held in Melbourne 25-28 March 2002. This event comprised 16 workshops and 2000 square meters of exhibition space and a budget of almost $2million. It attracted some 600 participants from universities, research centers, high tech entrepreneurs from Italy and Australia as well as government officials, and culminated in the signing of a Joint Declaration for Co-operation in Scientific Research and Technology between the Government of the Italian Republic and the Government of Australia.
- In 2001-2002 Chair of the “Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resource” (CCMLAR). CCAMLR is an international organisation represented by 24 nations based in Hobart (Australia). Its activities began within the Antarctic Treaty to preserve the Flora and Fauna of the Antarctic Sea.
- From 1997 to 2000, on behalf of the Italian Government contributed to the final draft of the frameworks in Microelectronics, Information Technology, Technological Parks etc, within the technological and scientific cooperation protocols between the Italian Republic and the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Slovenian Republic and the Republic of Tunisia. Managed, some activities of protocol of cooperation on behalf of Tecnopolis. Furthermore, managed some projects for the European Commission such as ECIP, JOP and Med Invest- Med Enterprise which focused on the internationalisation of Small and Medium Enterprises.
- Member of scientific committees including:
- Since 2001 member of the scientific committee at many S&T conferences organised by the Embassy of Italy in Australia;
- the SEIL- Hall of Electronics, Electrotechnique and Illumitechnique events, organised by the Fiera del Levante - Expo of Bari in September ‘96 and September ’98;
- the Conference & Exhibition ARCHI.MED “International Conference of Inventions for Innovation” organised in February 2000 by Fiera del Levante at the Expo of Bari.
- From 1988 member of the Engineering Profession of the Province of Bari. From 1997 to 1998 was a member of the Directive Board and Counselor Treasurer of the Engineering Profession of the Province of Bari, and was also responsible for the Technological Innovation Committee.
